Martha Breithaupt, ICD.D Joins BDO Canada as Tax Partner, SR&ED Government Incentives

BDO Canada is pleased to announce the addition of Martha Breithaupt as Tax Partner to the SR&ED Government Incentives services team. With more than 20 years of experience, Martha brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team as a seasoned tax practitioner and scientist.

As the Founder and Director of the educational video series, State of Science, Martha has championed innovative research and industrial capacity in Canada. Her educational startup has raised awareness about cutting-edge advancements and their impact on various industries.

Previously, Martha served as a Partner and an elected member of the Partnership Board at a national accounting and advisory firm with a $500 million valuation. As Chair of Governance and National R&D Tax Credit leader, she played a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s direction. Martha’s leadership extended to leading multi-disciplinary engineering and finance teams, as well as mentoring students, managers, partners and practice leaders.

Martha has a Bachelor of Science, Biochemistry and Business degree from the University of Waterloo. Her commitment to professional development is evident through her Practitioner level coaching certification from the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. She was honored with the University of Waterloo’s Young Alumni Award for her contributions to the field of science and business. Additionally, she completed the ICD’s Director Education Program, solidifying her expertise in board governance.

Currently, Martha serves as the Chair of the International Women’s Forum Waterloo chapter, advocating for gender equality and empowering women in leadership roles.

Martha joins BDO Canada on May 27 and is based in the Brantford office.
